The term “rapper’s, rapper” come with a certain “stigma.” What I often take from it is that said rapper is sort of over the head of the common listener and more in pocket for the well trained (or constantly trained) ear of the hip-hop fanatic.
With that in mind I would have to coin Hawdwerk the “people’s rapper.” This doesn’t mean that he lacks the technical skill, just that he speaks with that skill directly to the common person.
What’s most entertaining about Hawdwerk is that he doesn’t truly compromise anything when he rhymes and still maintains dope. You genuinely feel confident that the way he wrote the rhyme, spit the rhyme and performs the rhyme are all very much in character with him as an individual. That’s one of the most difficult things to accomplish as an emcee and DEFINITELY rare amongst people in general.
His new mixtape Off the Clock is a master peice of blue collar rhyming. Hawdwerk explained that at one point he was working 2 jobs and going to school, that type of work ethic shows in this latest effort. I’m especially a fan of his story telling ability. I suggest you grab this one up and give it a listen. I’m looking forward to a second effort from Hawdwerk & Jansport J, I truly believe that they are honing their individual crafts to begin what could be a very classic record.
