The term “rapper’s, rapper” come with a certain “stigma.” What I often take from it is that said rapper is sort of over the head of the common listener and more in pocket for the well trained (or constantly trained) ear of the hip-hop fanatic.
With that in mind I would have to coin Hawdwerk the “people’s rapper.” This doesn’t mean that he lacks the technical skill, just that he speaks with that skill directly to the common person.
What’s most entertaining about Hawdwerk is that he doesn’t truly compromise anything when he rhymes and still maintains dope. You genuinely feel confident that the way he wrote the rhyme, spit the rhyme and performs the rhyme are all very much in character with him as an individual. That’s one of the most difficult things to accomplish as an emcee and DEFINITELY rare amongst people in general.
His new mixtape Off the Clock is a master peice of blue collar rhyming. Hawdwerk explained that at one point he was working 2 jobs and going to school, that type of work ethic shows in this latest effort. I’m especially a fan of his story telling ability. I suggest you grab this one up and give it a listen. I’m looking forward to a second effort from Hawdwerk & Jansport J, I truly believe that they are honing their individual crafts to begin what could be a very classic record.
Woke up this morning 1 year older. Can’t tell you how much of a blessing that is. I also realized that i’m a first generation born Los Angelino, home of the Back 2 Back NBA 2010 WORLD CHAMPION LAKERS!!! Yes ya’ll, there is no more talk to be done. NONE
I felt like on this would be the perfect time to suggest a song for you as you roll into your weekend!
This song I feel should be the summertime JAM as you head to the beach or anywhere else in the city this summer. Basicali dropped this song “LOVE LA” a few weeks ago, but I promised I would save it to post AFTER the Lakers won the championship. This is my THEME SONG for my birthday weekend!
Bonus Songs!
Ice Cube’s – Today was a Good Day
What could be more appropriate for the moment last night, RIGHT
Murs – LA
That’s because he explained the whole city perfectly!
Man, on the real shout out to J.Bizness for bringing this guy to my attention. When we look back on this past year, i’m almost certain J.Bizness will stand out clearly as LA’s best tastemaker for upcoming artist.
Also, Belvi is quickly moving up my list of top 5 new rappers from LA. Looking forward to a project from this guy.
Game 7 is for real bball fans only. Haters, naysayers, team switchers, and have-nots need not apply. This is for the FANS. This is one game, last game of the season for everyone, bragging rights for the summer, and history on the line.
I have no predictions about tonight, I just want my squad to win. That being said.
Now that i’ve got you with the title, let me explain lol
World Cup Soccer has officially kicked off in a big way in South Africa, a few surprising tie games and some not so surprising wins. This is the time of year that soccer gets it’s best shot at gaining new fans and attention, especially from the US. This ofcourse comes at a cost of controversy (it is Africa so we know somebody’s going to have a problem with it lol).
Introducing the Vuvuzela. What is that you ask? Well if you’ve watched this year’s World Cup and heard that buzzing noise in the background that makes you feel like you are in the middle of a Hornet’s nest, THAT my friend is the Vuvuzela. A horn that is blown in waves by fans (NOT JUST THE AFRICAN ONES DAMNIT) all game long. ALL GAME LONG!
Players have called it a distraction, Fans call it annoying, Doctor’s have even called it a healthrisk, Networks have tried to figure a way to drown it out of their simulcast, and after all 4 have complained to FIFA…FIFA’s response…MAN THE FUCK UP. The Vuvuzelas are here to stay lol.
I personally enjoy them, they make the game seem extremely important, almost like war or some shit lol. Plus, this is a sport where people will literally sing their national anthem on repeat for the WHOLE MATCH!! Get over it OR just leave South Africa OR just watch the game on silent and stop whining like little chumps.
The 626 duo Hawdwerk & Jansport J are determined to not take any time off whatsoever from hitting you over the head with dopeness (yes I said dopeness lol).
Following their successful independent release High Power Moves. The group’s producer Jansport J dropped a DOPE Instrumental album titled MoveMeants. The album is filled with chops, flips and loops to make your spring to summer transition a breeze and stays true to it’s theme of creating music that has true meaning, music that actually “moves” you.
For those that are slow to take a chance on this fly shit Jansport J has received a VERY ILL video directed by HeavenHell Entertainment. If this doesn’t inspire you, nothing will lol
With Hawdwerk planning to soon release his solo mixtape titled “Off the Clock” this looks to be yet another large step in the right direction. Get to know them now so you can brag to your friends about being first later.
So Supreme, the first single of Trek Life’s new album Everything Changed Nothing, is currently being run on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNews as a background song the NBA & Stanley Cup Finals.
